Using classes in TEACH projects

Here's how to create and manage classes to customize materials and track progress for different groups of students.

Why set up classes

There are times when you may want to organize a project by classes: a class for different periods/sections, a class for a new semester or school year, or even a class for groups of students working at a different pace. Setting up different classes in a project unit allows you to track your progress separately, create unique project calendars, customize slide decks and student handouts, etc.

Each class in a project keeps its own progress, notes, and editable resources, but the unit guide, lesson plans, and embedded professional learning don't change.

Every project starts with a default group called My Class, and you can rename it any time. When adding new classes, you choose whether to start with a fresh set of resources or copy over the ones you already customized.

Using the class menu

Use the class menu to switch between your classes, add new classes, or manage your existing classes.

When you select a class, TEACH remembers your choice as your “current” class, and the progress bar on Home and the project header will always be linked to the current class.

Adding a new class

From the project header, open the class selector and choose New class.

  1. Name it whatever you like: "Science 2026-27”, “Per 2”, “Group 1”, etc.

  2. Choose how you want to handle the editable resources:

    1. Using the default project resources means that you get a fresh copy of every slide deck and editable resource that was published with the project.

    2. Copy resources from an existing class when you want to carry over the resources you already customized.

  3. Create the class and then decide whether you want to Open your new class or Add another class.

Remember:

  • There is no limit to the number of classes you can associate with a project.

  • Lesson completion and reflection notes ALWAYS start fresh, regardless of the resource option you pick.

  • Copying customized resources requires a connected Google account. If Google isn’t connected, just select the default project resources because you’ll still be able to read and print them.

Managing your classes

Use Manage classes to rename, reorder, hide or delete your classes.

  • Rename. Select a class name, type the new one, and press Enter.

  • Reorder. Move your classes into whatever order you want to see them in. That order sets the list here and your class menu.

  • Hide. Hiding takes a class out of your class menu without losing anything. It's what you want for a group you've finished teaching: the progress, the notes, and the customized resources all stay, and you can bring the class back whenever you like.

  • Delete. Delete a class ONLY if you haven’t done anything with it yet. You should never delete classes where you tracked your progress, reflected on lessons, entered notes, or personalized resources because this information may be helpful in the future. Deleting can not be undone. When in doubt, choose to hide a class instead of deleting it.

Good to know

  • You can't hide or delete the current class. Switch to another class first.

  • Hidden classes aren't gone. They stay in Manage Classes, and you can still copy their customized resources into a new class.

  • A class name isn't a project name. Projects always keep their original name so you can easily find the curriculum again.
